Representative Elementary Volume as a Function of Land Uses and Soil Processes Based on 3D Pore System Analysis

Representative elementary volume (REV) is required for representative measurements of soil physical properties. However, questions may arise whether REV depends on how the structure modified or processes in affect REV. Here, we explore dependence contrasting land uses (conventional tillage, no-tillage, and minimum tillage) applying wetting drying (W-D) cycles. The effect different subvolume selection schemes (cube core) was also investigated. For this study, high-resolution three-dimensional images obtained using X-ray Computed Tomography (XCT) technique were analyzed. micromorphological properties measured porosity (P), fractal dimension (FD), degree anisotropy (DA), pore connectivity (C). results show that mainly P C (both schemes). core method showed lower due to larger analyzed than cube method. It not possible define a DA. more sensitive changes scale analysis, showing an increasing trend with applied W-D cycles FD. Our indicate cannot be considered static since influence it.
